Welcome to another study of Jesus Love, I apologize for posting on Friday as opposed to the usual Thursday, clearly I have more work to do on my discipline.
So, lets just dive right in shall we?
Love always protects – here we examine the story of the demon possessed man in mark 1-20, the man lived in the burial ground and as the bible puts it, he could no longer be restrained, not even with chains. He would wander day and night, howling as he moved around the burial stones cutting himself with sharp stones.(what a life)
Verse 6 says “when Jesus was still a distance away, the man saw him, ran to meet him, and bowed low before him. (7) with a shriek he screamed, why are you interfering with me, Jesus , son of the most high God? In the name of God, I beg you, don’t torture me (8) For Jesus had already said to the spirit, ‘come out of the man you evil spirit’
Isn’t it a bit contradictory how, the man ran to meet Jesus but the same man, through the spirit inside him spoke and said why are you interfering with me?
I want to believe that there was a warring going on between the man and the demon he was possessed with, so when the demon must have registered Jesus as the Son of God, the man also recognized the power to protect him from the invasion of his body, so he took over the body briefly and ran to meet Jesus.
He was right.
And Jesus being the absolute ultimate protector, didn’t miss a beat, he did just that, protected his own.
Love always trusts – trust, a very fragile thread that can easily be shattered to a million pieces if placed in the wrong person’s care. Here we look at Jesus’ prayer at Gethsemane in Matthew 26:36-56 but we shall zoom in on verse 39 which says “And going a little further he fell on his face and prayed saying ‘my father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; but nevertheless, not as I will but as you will.’”
Jesus was clearly asking God if maybe somebody else could just die for the sins of God’s people, born and unborn, but he went ahead to add not my will but as you! Will. That’s God’s will. Why? Because he knows that trusting in God will never leave him bereft even if at the times, it seems like its a lot.
Now today whose name is the most powerful name in all the earth, under the earth, under the seas and in the skies? Jesus!!!.
Love always hopes –for a review, we go to the story in mark 10: 17-27, this is the story of Jesus and the young ruler who came to ask what he could do to gain eternal life, Jesus responded to him about keeping the commandments and as a law keeping man he replied that he already did all that now watch what happens next in verse 22-21 21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But at these words [a]he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.
I want to believe that Jesus already knew what was going to happen, probably through the Holy Spirit because he carried on in the next verse to say “23 And Jesus, looking around, *said to His disciples, “How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 The disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus *answered again and *said to them, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
In fact after re-reading this, I am convinced that Jesus knew just what exactly was to happen but still Jesus hoped, I quote “21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him”
With these few points of mine, I hope I’ve been able to convince you and not confuse you that you can find love in all it expressions in Jesus (LOL)
But seriously, isn’t it a bit amazing how sometimes we don’t read our bibles the way it is meant to be read.
Till next week!! Adios Amigo.
